Springfield
Twp., OH
– Thirty-one fishing pros will be paired with 31 local amateurs in the seventh
annual Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way Bass Classic presented by
Whispering Pines Village and hosted by Aqua Ohio, Inc. The event will be held
Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Evans Lake (left on Calla Road off of Rt. 164 South
in Springfield Twp.).
Top bass
anglers will be paired with amateurs recruited from around the Valley who make a
donation to the United Way for the opportunity to ride in a fully-tournament
rigged bass boat operated by an experienced angler who shares the ins-and-outs
of bass fishing. Prizes will be awarded for total weight and big bass at a
presentation starting at 1:30 p.m. Well supported by area businesses and
professional people, this year’s tournament is expected to raise nearly
$15,000 for local programs and services supported by the Youngstown/Mahoning
Valley United Way, which brings the seven-year total to $81,000.
“The Bass
Classic is a unique event in the Valley and continues to grow thanks to the
support of our sponsors, supporters and tournament participants,” said Walter J.
“Buzz” Pishkur, Aqua Ohio president. “It provides an excellent opportunity for
local anglers to enjoy a great day of fun and fishing while contributing to a
very worthy cause.”
In
conjunction with the United Way Bass Classic, the “Fish and Fun” kids event will
be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the same day. Free fishing, activities
and games are planned for children of all ages. Entertainment will include a
clown and the opportunity to watch a pro-style bass tournament weigh-in
beginning at 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to all who attend and all children
must be accompanied by an adult.
Corporate
sponsors of the United Way Bass Classic include; Whispering Pines Village,
Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell law firm, Pipelines, Sensus Metering Systems, and
